Shogi (Japanese chess) has never been popular in the West due to the language barrier, even though it has been featured in the famous manga and anime "Sangatsu no Lion", in light novel and anime "Ryuuou no Oshigoto" and in manga and anime "Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru".
